Protora Targets Radar Longevity with New ShadowSight Lifecycle Program

Syracuse-based defense contractor Protora is moving to extend the lifespan of aging military surveillance hardware with the launch of ShadowSight. The program offers a radar-agnostic suite of services, ranging from supply chain management and technical sustainment to AI-driven predictive maintenance, aimed at keeping fielded systems mission-capable for decades.

The initiative addresses the common challenge of maintaining legacy sensor infrastructure that remains vital to modern domain awareness. By integrating BigBear.ai’s ConductorOS, the program applies edge-based artificial intelligence to monitor radar health in real time. This shift toward condition-based maintenance allows technicians to identify hardware degradation before it results in critical downtime, a departure from traditional, time-based repair schedules.

Beyond technical health monitoring, the program encompasses comprehensive supply chain forecasting and hands-on operator training. CEO Dave Abel noted that the service is designed to support both proprietary Protora platforms and third-party systems that have been in the field for years. By providing field representatives and remote monitoring, the company intends to ensure that equipment remains operational regardless of its original manufacturer, effectively bridging the gap between aging hardware and current mission requirements.
