Amazon Shifts Upmarket with New Alexa Tablet Series

Stepping away from its budget-friendly roots, Amazon unveiled a trio of premium Alexa-branded tablets on Thursday. With entry prices ranging from $230 to $500, the company is positioning these devices as direct competitors to high-end tablets from Apple and Samsung while retaining its signature ecosystem integration.

Amazon Shifts Upmarket with New Alexa Tablet Series

The flagship 12-inch Pro model anchors the lineup, marketed as a versatile tool for professional tasks, reading, and media consumption. While these prices represent a significant jump from the existing Fire tablet series, they remain positioned as a value alternative to the premium offerings of industry rivals.

In a departure from its restricted software environment, Amazon has enabled support for Google applications including Gmail, Docs, and YouTube. This compatibility aims to bridge the gap for users who previously avoided Amazon hardware due to software limitations. The devices are scheduled to reach customers in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada on Oct. 14, followed by a rollout in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain on Oct. 19.
