Top 100 Private Markets Managers Raise $5.74 Trillion in Five Years

The world's 100 largest private markets managers secured $5.74 trillion in capital between 2021 and 2025, a sum exceeding Germany’s annual economic output. According to PEI Group’s inaugural report, the industry is shifting away from niche specialization toward a model where firms dominate across multiple asset classes.

Blackstone leads the ranking with $356.7 billion raised, followed by KKR at $302.2 billion and Goldman Sachs Alternatives at $215.3 billion. The concentration of power remains significant: the top ten firms alone accounted for $2.04 trillion, or 35.5 percent of the total capital captured by the list. To qualify for the top 100, a manager required at least $18.97 billion in fundraising over the five-year period.

The data reveals a clear trend of consolidation where the biggest players are no longer defined by a single asset class. Sixteen firms on the list successfully raised money across all five major strategies, while seven of the top ten are active in every segment. This expansion is often driven by strategic acquisitions, such as EQT’s purchase of Coller Capital and General Atlantic’s takeover of Actis. Dan Gunner, Director of Research at PEI Group, noted that the industry has fundamentally outgrown its traditional categories, with firms that were once buyout-focused now prioritizing credit and other diverse strategies.
