Masayoshi Son’s interest in the security provider aligns with his broader ambition to pivot SoftBank toward AI-driven hardware. By acquiring Allied Universal, which currently supplies staffing for corporate venues and maintains a growing footprint in data center operations, SoftBank intends to eventually integrate humanoid robots into security workflows. While the deployment of autonomous security staff remains a long-term goal, the acquisition would provide immediate control over the essential infrastructure needed to support such technologies.
Deliberations remain in the preliminary stages, and neither party has confirmed a finalized price or definitive agreement. SoftBank declined to comment on the potential deal, while Allied Universal did not respond to inquiries. This potential purchase follows SoftBank’s strategic $5.4 billion acquisition of ABB’s robotics division last year, further cementing the firm's transition from pure-play venture capital toward heavy investment in industrial automation and robotics.
