AbbVie Presents Long-Term Data for IBD Therapies at UEGW 2026

AbbVie is showcasing 20 new scientific abstracts at the 2026 United European Gastroenterology Week in Barcelona, highlighting long-term clinical and endoscopic outcomes for its inflammatory bowel disease portfolio. The data, spanning up to four years, provide fresh insights into the real-world performance of risankizumab and upadacitinib in managing chronic conditions.

The presentations underscore the company's research into sustained patient care for those with moderately to severely active Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Long-term results from the COMMAND and U-ENDURE studies indicate that both therapies maintain efficacy over extended treatment periods. Notably, upadacitinib demonstrated clinical remission in up to 86.6% of Crohn's disease patients at week 144, while real-world evidence from the UPlift study showed a median time to first response of just 13 days.

Beyond established medications, AbbVie is introducing findings for the investigational dual-targeting therapy ABBV-466. Preliminary data from the Phase 2a TARGET-CD study suggest this novel approach may achieve endoscopic remission by simultaneously inhibiting inflammatory signaling and immune-cell trafficking. According to Sofie Berg, the therapeutic area head for immunology, these findings are vital for clinicians aiming to improve long-term outcomes in everyday practice. The company also reported that patients switching from tumor necrosis factor inhibitors to upadacitinib experienced fewer hospitalizations and surgeries, potentially signaling a shift in treatment patterns for complex IBD cases.
