The capital expenditure focuses on installing walking beam furnaces and an in-line slab sizing press, replacing legacy equipment that has long defined the site's output. By transitioning to this modern technology, the company expects to boost its annual capacity from 2.2 million tons to approximately 3.5 million tons. Beyond raw volume, the upgrade streamlines the manufacturing process by reducing fuel consumption and minimizing scrap material.
Chief Manufacturing Officer Scott Buckiso framed the investment as a commitment to the region, noting that the facility will supply the specific steel grades required for future industrial needs. The mill transforms raw slabs into thin coils essential for vehicle manufacturing and appliances. Construction is set to begin once regulatory permits are secured, with the company targeting late 2029 for the commencement of initial production.
