Genmab Surges as Ovarian Cancer Drug Trial Hits Targets

Shares of the Danish biotech firm Genmab climbed 13% during Monday morning trading, signaling a sharp investor response to new clinical trial data. The company reported that its experimental drug, rinatabart sesutecan, significantly outperformed standard chemotherapy in treating patients with advanced ovarian cancer, marking a pivotal breakthrough for its pipeline.

The late-stage study results for the candidate, known as Rina-S, demonstrated a 57% reduction in the risk of death and a 71% improvement in disease progression compared to traditional chemotherapy regimens. Chief Executive Jan van de Winkel cited these figures as evidence of the drug's efficacy, marking the first time the treatment has successfully cleared late-stage testing hurdles.

Analysts at J.P. Morgan noted that this performance, combined with the recent success of the lymphoma treatment Epkinly, bolsters the company's growth trajectory. Expectations are now shifting toward upcoming data for petosemtamab, a drug currently in late-stage trials for head and neck cancer. Genmab further supported its momentum over the weekend by releasing midstage data for petosemtamab in colorectal cancer, which the company described as showing promising depth and durability.
