PowerBank Secures Grid Access for Nova Scotia Solar Project

PowerBank Corporation has finalized the Standard Small Generator Interconnection and Operating Agreement for its 3.15 MW Petpeswick community solar project in Halifax. This milestone clears the way for environmental permitting, marking a significant step toward the company's goal of bringing renewable energy to residents without requiring rooftop installations.

The Petpeswick development represents a core component of Nova Scotia’s push to reach 80 percent renewable energy by 2030. By bypassing the need for individual solar panels, the project allows local renters and business owners to subscribe to the energy farm, securing roughly $1.727 million in electricity savings over the life of the installation. PowerBank expects the facility to power the equivalent of 288 homes annually once construction concludes.

Following the grid agreement and the receipt of municipal permits, the developer is now transitioning to environmental assessments. Ground preparation is slated for the fall of 2026, contingent on final financing and regulatory approvals. The company is partnering with Trimac Engineering to execute the project, leveraging its experience from 50 MW of completed community solar developments in the United States to expand its footprint in Atlantic Canada.
