The NRC’s decision follows an environmental assessment of the project, which is operated by enCore Energy subsidiary Powertech USA. This finding clears a major path for the license renewal, provided the company continues to satisfy safety requirements for its In-Situ Recovery facility. The commission also finalized a programmatic agreement under the National Historic Preservation Act, establishing a framework for protecting cultural resources at the site.
This federal milestone arrives shortly after the Bureau of Land Management authorized initial infrastructure construction, including access roads and groundwater monitoring wells on public lands within the project area. Executive Chair William M. Sheriff emphasized that the company remains focused on the final stages of the licensing process, noting the project’s role in supporting domestic uranium production for the U.S. energy grid. The Dewey Burdock site, which spans over 10,000 acres, was designated for accelerated permitting under the federal Fast-41 program last year.
