Greenland Mines Taps Nordisk Fundering for 7,500-Metre Skaergaard Campaign

Greenland Mines Ltd. has contracted Scandinavian specialist Nordisk Fundering to execute a 7,500-metre diamond drilling program at its Skaergaard project in southeast Greenland. The campaign, which utilizes three helicopter-supported rigs, aims to transition the deposit from a large-scale resource toward a development-ready, open-pit mining operation.

The 2026 field season represents a transition from conceptual planning to physical engineering. By integrating geotechnical data collection with resource-conversion drilling, the company is shifting its focus toward the technical requirements of pit-wall design and rock-mass characterization. This work is supported by a logistical backbone comprising a dedicated icebreaker and an accommodation vessel, essential for maintaining operations in the demanding Arctic environment.

Beyond drilling, Greenland Mines is running parallel metallurgical workstreams with GTK Mintec to refine processing flowsheets. This technical push occurs against a backdrop of tightening global supplies for platinum-group metals, which remain heavily concentrated in Russia and South Africa. As Western markets seek to de-risk their supply chains, the Skaergaard project—situated within a stable jurisdiction—is being positioned as a strategic alternative for palladium, gold, and platinum production.
