Marconi Archer system hits high-speed benchmarks in Swedish trials

Across a 75-kilometer span of challenging Swedish terrain, Marconi Technologies has successfully validated its Archer troposcatter system. The June trials, conducted with the Swedish Armed Forces' defense materiel authority, proved the platform could maintain consistent, high-throughput connectivity where previous attempts had failed to secure stable links.

The evaluation, held between June 1 and June 5, pitted the Archer terminal against a notoriously difficult route between Enköping and Arboga. Marconi’s hardware delivered throughput speeds five to six times higher than previous recorded data for the same path. Beyond raw speed, the system integrated directly with the Swedish Armed Forces' mobile network node, allowing immediate traffic flow through existing field equipment.

Key to the trial's success was the system's ease of use in the field. Marconi CEO Alain Cohen noted that the ability for a two-person crew to establish a beyond-line-of-sight link in under 20 minutes—aided by automatic antenna alignment—shifts the tactical paradigm for satellite-denied environments. The Archer platform, which is designed to operate over 200 kilometers without fixed infrastructure, has also recently secured a selection by the U.S. Army for secure communications.
