Shore Medical Center Deploys VELYS Robotic Spine Surgery Platform

Shore Medical Center has become the first hospital in New Jersey to integrate the VELYS Active Robotic Assistance Platform into its surgical suite. Located in Somers Point, the nonprofit facility aims to leverage the system’s navigation technology to improve precision and recovery times for patients undergoing complex spinal procedures.

The platform utilizes VELYS ADAPTIVE TRACKING technology, which allows the system to continuously recalibrate based on patient movement during operations. By maintaining strict alignment with the preoperative surgical plan, the robotics provide surgeons with increased control, facilitating minimally invasive techniques that may reduce post-operative pain and shorten hospital stays.

David R. Hughes, President and CEO of Shore Medical Center, described the acquisition as a strategic investment to ensure South Jersey residents have local access to advanced medical innovations. Dr. Leonard Galler, the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer, added that the technology helps patients return to their daily activities more efficiently. The hospital, which maintains a 196-bed capacity and holds a Joint Commission certification for spine surgery, is positioning this addition as a cornerstone of its commitment to specialized community care.
