The capital will fund a significant technological pivot at the historic plant, where the company plans to decommission an aging single cupola furnace in favor of four high-efficiency electric coreless induction furnaces. This shift is projected to boost the facility’s melting capacity by 25% while simultaneously slashing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50%. Alex Jones, president of UB Community Development, cited the manufacturer’s century-long commitment to its workforce as a primary driver for the partnership.

Founded in 1905 and employee-owned since 1924, ACIPCO serves as a critical supplier for the nation’s waterworks and energy sectors. By transitioning to cleaner, more productive furnace technology, the company aims to solidify its competitive standing and long-term economic viability for the Birmingham region. The project represents a strategic alignment between the manufacturer's operational goals and the community development mission of United Bank, focusing on the preservation of high-paying industrial jobs.
