Genesis Climbs to Second Place in JD Power Initial Quality Rankings

Genesis secured the second overall position in the JD Power 2026 U.S. Initial Quality Study, leaping seven spots from its 2025 ranking. The result highlights a sharp reduction in owner-reported issues across the brand’s sedan and SUV lineup, marking a significant shift in the company's performance within the first 90 days of ownership.

The jump in rankings was fueled by substantial gains from the G80 sedan, which saw fewer complaints regarding infotainment systems and vehicle controls. Across the broader portfolio, the GV70, GV80, G70, and G80 all secured top-three finishes in their respective segments. These models benefited from targeted refinements to technology interfaces, addressing common pain points that often plague premium vehicles.

Tedros Mengiste, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America, described the achievement as a reflection of the brand's commitment to vehicle craftsmanship. According to the study, which surveyed 78,514 owners of 2026 model-year vehicles, the industry at large saw improved quality metrics across nine of ten categories. While infotainment remains a persistent friction point for the industry—largely due to smartphone integration hurdles—Genesis managed to navigate these challenges more effectively than most competitors. Barry Ratzlaff, the company's chief customer officer, noted that the success stems from a rapid feedback loop between customer data and engineering adjustments.
