Meiji Shipping Net Profit Halves Amid Operating Profit Squeeze

Meiji Shipping Co. reported a significant contraction in profitability for the first half of the fiscal year ending September 30, with net profit sliding to 1.35 billion yen from 2.82 billion yen in the same period last year, despite a modest uptick in overall revenue across its group operations.

Meiji Shipping Net Profit Halves Amid Operating Profit Squeeze

The Tokyo-listed firm saw its operating profit drop sharply to 1.50 billion yen, down from 2.96 billion yen previously. This decline occurred even as total revenue climbed to 30.87 billion yen compared to 29.86 billion yen in the prior year. While the operating results faced pressure, the company’s pretax profit showed a notable divergence, surging to 3.41 billion yen from 357 million yen a year earlier. Earnings per share followed the downward trend in net profit, falling to 39.67 yen from 82.96 yen. These figures were prepared in accordance with Japanese accounting standards.
